Know the current Critical Reasoning context
The current Verbal section combines Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning. Official exam content says Critical Reasoning measures argument evaluation, inference and plan reasoning through short passages.
The section contains 23 total questions in 45 minutes. An inference method must be accurate and compact enough to work inside mixed Verbal pacing.
Identify an inference task
Read the stem first, as official Verbal guidance recommends, and determine whether the question asks what follows, is supported or can properly be concluded.
Do not use a strengthen or assumption method. The correct inference is derived from the information rather than added to improve an argument.
Treat the statements as the evidence set
Accept the stimulus as the working information even when the topic is unfamiliar. Official guidance says specialised subject knowledge is not required.
Separate explicit facts, definitions, conditions and relationships. Do not challenge them or fill perceived gaps with personal experience.
Do not invent an author conclusion
Some inference stimuli present facts without arguing for a main claim. Your job is to find what those facts support, not to criticise a conclusion that is not there.
When a conclusion is present, distinguish it from the evidence and determine whether the stem asks about all statements or a defined portion.
Use elimination as the core method

You may still summarise the facts, but do not force them into one anticipated answer. Test the exact claim each option makes.
Ask what must be supported

Use the counterexample test
Try to imagine a situation in which all stimulus statements remain true but the answer choice is false. If such a situation is allowed, the choice is not required.
Keep the counterexample within the given conditions. It cannot contradict an explicit fact or import a new rule.
Prefer defensible scope
A narrower claim is often easier to support than an absolute one, but narrowness alone does not make an answer correct. It must still follow.
Match the population, product, period and outcome in the stimulus. Reject choices that silently broaden a sample or time frame.
Track quantifier words
Some, many, most, all, none, may and must express different logical strength. Do not move from some to most or from likely to certain.
A statement that all members have a feature supports that some do only when the group is known to exist. Check existence conditions.
Handle conditional rules
If A is sufficient for B, observing A supports B. Observing B does not by itself support A, and not observing A does not establish not B.
Write a short arrow when several conditions interact. Use the contrapositive only when the original conditional permits it.
Handle either-or statements
Determine whether alternatives can overlap or whether exactly one must occur. Everyday language can be ambiguous, so use the wording given.
Do not infer that one option is false merely because the other is true unless exclusivity is established.
Handle numerical relationships
Translate totals, percentages, rates, averages and changes into labelled quantities. Preserve denominators and time periods.
An increase in an absolute number does not establish an increase in proportion. An average does not describe every individual.
Handle rankings and comparisons
A is greater than B and B is greater than C supports A greater than C when the same measure and conditions apply.
Do not combine rankings across different attributes, years or populations. Similar wording can hide a changed basis of comparison.
Handle set relationships
If every member of one category belongs to another, represent the subset relationship clearly. Do not reverse it.
When categories overlap only partially, avoid claiming that one contains the other. A simple circle sketch can protect direction.
Handle cause language conservatively
Correlation or sequence alone does not prove causation. An inference choice claiming a cause usually needs an explicit causal rule or enough information to exclude alternatives.
A supported statement may describe association or timing without asserting why it occurred. Match the evidence strength.
Handle predictions carefully
Past facts do not guarantee a future result unless the stimulus provides a rule or condition connecting them.
A statement may support possibility or likelihood without supporting certainty. Preserve modal language in the choice.
Handle definitions precisely
Apply definitions exactly as stated. A category may require several conditions, so one matching feature may be insufficient.
Do not substitute a common dictionary meaning for the operational definition in the stimulus.
Combine statements only when linked
Two facts can support a new conclusion when they share a valid variable, category or condition. Mere appearance in the same passage is not a logical connection.
Write a short chain and check every step. One unsupported bridge makes the final inference invalid.
Respect negative wording
Not all means at least one exception, not that none qualify. No known evidence is not the same as evidence that something never occurs.
Paraphrase double negatives before judging an option. Preserve the exact strength of the original claim.
Test every clause
A choice joined by and requires support for both parts. A supported first clause cannot rescue an unsupported second clause.
For or, determine whether at least one alternative is guaranteed and whether the wording implies exclusivity.
Reject answers that could be true
A plausible or possible statement is insufficient when the task asks what follows. The stimulus must provide the needed support.
Ask whether the choice is required, not whether it fits a believable story about the topic.
Reject outside-topic extensions
A choice may introduce a related company, policy, cause or population that the stimulus never connects to the evidence.
Shared vocabulary creates familiarity, not support. Trace the exact logical chain or eliminate the option.
Reject reversed relationships
Common traps reverse cause and effect, subset and superset, conditional direction, comparison order or the relationship between a rate and its base.
Rewrite the original relation and the choice in parallel form. Direction errors become easier to see.
Reject extreme language
Words such as only, always, impossible and completely require strong support. A moderate stimulus rarely justifies an absolute conclusion.
Do not reject an extreme word automatically; reject it when the evidence does not establish that strength.
Distinguish inference from assumption
An inference follows from the supplied facts. An assumption is an unstated dependency used to support a conclusion.
If a choice would make an argument work but is not established by the stimulus, it may be a useful assumption and still be wrong here.
Distinguish inference from strengthen
A strengthener can introduce new information that increases support. An inference cannot depend on a new fact outside the evidence set.
Ask whether the choice is already justified or merely helpful if added. Only the first fits an inference task.
Use official questions for calibration
Use official sample questions, the Starter Kit and official Verbal practice to learn the precision of valid conclusions.
In Study Mode, compare each eliminated choice with the explanation. In Exam Mode, practise the same tests under realistic timing.
Maintain an inference error log
Record the key facts, relation used, chosen option, unsupported leap and a counterexample that defeats the wrong choice.
Classify errors such as scope expansion, conditional reversal, causation, numerical base, outside knowledge or extreme wording.
Add timing gradually
Start with untimed proof and counterexample work, then use short inference sets, mixed Critical Reasoning and full Verbal sections.
When time is tight, eliminate choices with one decisive unsupported word rather than constructing a long story for each option.
Use Question Review and Edit wisely
The current exam allows bookmarking, reviewing as many questions as time permits and editing up to three answers at section end.
Make the strongest supported choice on the first pass. If section time expires, the review screen does not appear.

Combine focused inference sets, conditional and numerical drills, mixed Verbal practice and delayed re-solving of logged questions.
