GMAT Exam Guide for Nepali Students explains the current 64-question structure, three 45-minute sections, scoring, adaptive design, Review & Edit tool, calculator rules, preparation, score reports and programme research. Use it to build a current exam plan rather than preparing for the retired 10th Edition.

Understand the GMAT’s purpose

The GMAT is designed for graduate management education and helps programmes assess reasoning and data-literacy evidence for MBA and business master’s study.

Every school controls its admissions policy. Confirm that each target programme accepts the current GMAT and whether test-center, online or both delivery routes are accepted.

Do not prepare for the retired edition

The current GMAT has Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning and Data Insights. It does not contain the retired edition’s Integrated Reasoning or Analytical Writing sections.

Archive study plans built around a 200-800 score, Sentence Correction, an essay or the old section lengths unless you are only extracting still-relevant foundation work.

Know the complete structure

The exam contains 64 questions and takes 2 hours 15 minutes. Each of the three sections has a 45-minute limit.

The appointment includes administration outside testing time. Practise the actual exam sequence rather than counting only question minutes.

Understand Quantitative Reasoning

Quant contains 21 Problem Solving questions. Official guidance describes arithmetic and elementary algebra foundations applied through logic and analytical reasoning.

Advanced mathematics is not the purpose, but accuracy under time and adaptive difficulty requires strong fundamentals.

Know the Quant calculator rule

A calculator is not available or permitted in the Quantitative Reasoning section. Practise estimation, number properties, algebraic manipulation and efficient written work.

Do not rely on a phone or personal calculator during preparation sets intended to measure Quant readiness.

Understand Verbal Reasoning

Verbal contains 23 Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning questions. It measures comprehension, logical relationships, inference and argument evaluation.

The current exam does not contain Sentence Correction. Use materials aligned with the current content outline.

Study Reading Comprehension

Practise identifying main purpose, structure, evidence, inference and the function of details. Keep every answer tied to the passage.

Review wrong choices by explaining the exact distortion, unsupported extension or scope error.

Study Critical Reasoning

Learn conclusion, evidence, assumption, gap and question task before evaluating choices. Common tasks include strengthening, weakening, inference and plan evaluation.

Do not import outside facts. Judge choices within the argument and task presented.

Understand Data Insights

Data Insights contains 20 questions that combine numerical, graphical and verbal information in business-relevant reasoning contexts.

The section measures data literacy, interpretation and decision-making rather than software operation.

Know the five Data Insights formats

Current formats include Data Sufficiency, Multi-Source Reasoning, Table Analysis, Graphics Interpretation and Two-Part Analysis.

Practise directions for each. A correct calculation can still fail when the response grid or sufficiency logic is misunderstood.

Know the Data Insights calculator rule

An on-screen calculator is available in Data Insights. It is not available in Quant.

Use it for calculation when efficient, but estimate and verify inputs. Switching sections requires switching calculator habits.

Understand computer adaptivity

The GMAT adapts question difficulty based on performance and other scoring parameters. Official scores also account for whether questions are answered.

Do not try to guess the difficulty level or infer your score during the exam. Focus on the current task and complete the section.

Answer every question

GMAC states that unanswered questions lead to a score penalty. Build pacing that reaches every item.

A rushed final answer is not ideal, but leaving multiple questions unanswered can create a direct additional problem.

Use the Question Review & Edit tool correctly

After answering every question in a section, the Review & Edit screen lets you review as many items as time permits and edit up to three answers.

If no time remains, the review screen will not be available. Protect review time without sacrificing completion.

Bookmark with a reason

Bookmark questions that have a specific uncertainty, such as an unchecked case, close argument choice or possible data-reading error.

Do not bookmark most of the section. The tool permits only three edits, so prioritise evidence-backed changes.

Choose the section order

The current GMAT lets candidates take Quant, Verbal and Data Insights in any order.

Test multiple orders in official practice and compare score, pacing and fatigue. Choose from evidence rather than habit.

Place the optional break

One optional 10-minute break can be taken after the first or second section. Coordinate it with the chosen section order.

Practise the exact sequence and follow all check-out and return instructions. An overlong break can have consequences under current rules.

Understand the Total Score

The current Total Score ranges from 205 to 805 and ends in 5. Quant, Verbal and Data Insights contribute equally to the total.

Do not compare the number directly with a retired 200-800 score. Use current percentile or official concordance context when historical comparison is necessary.

Understand section scores

Each current section is scored from 60 to 90 in one-point increments. The score report also provides percentile rankings.

Review sections separately. The same total can hide different strengths and preparation needs.

Use percentiles carefully

A percentile shows the percentage of a recent test-taker group you performed better than. It is not the percentage of questions correct.

GMAC updates percentile data. Use the current official table and note its data period.

Do not seek one universal good score

No GMAT score guarantees admission or funding. Programme requirements, class profiles, applicant pools and holistic review differ.

Build section and total targets from the exact programme’s current official evidence.

Research every target programme

Create a worksheet with programme, intake, GMAT policy, route acceptance, minimum, median or range, deadline, reporting method, source URL and access date.

Separate required, optional, not required and not accepted policies. Do not infer a rule from the university brand.

Compare admission evidence accurately

Label each number as minimum, average, median, middle range or personal target. Include the cohort and year.

A median describes a group; it does not mean every admitted candidate reached that score.

Understand the immediate result

At the end of the exam, unofficial Quant, Verbal, Data Insights and Total scores appear on screen under current guidance.

Do not record, photograph or print the secure screen. Follow test administrator instructions.

Know when the official report arrives

The Official Score Report is typically available in the mba.com account within 3-5 days, though GMAC says it can occasionally take up to 20 days.

Allow programme processing time after sending. Build the schedule from the earliest application deadline.

Use the detailed performance insights

The official report includes total and section scores, percentiles and performance information by content, question type, skills, time and review behaviour.

Use this evidence to decide whether a retake needs content repair, pacing changes or better Review & Edit decisions.

Understand post-exam score sending

You do not need to choose programmes before taking the exam. Current flexible sending lets you see the result before deciding where to send it.

Once a score is sent to a programme, GMAC cannot undo the action. Verify programme and intake before submission.

There is normally no need to cancel your score

GMAC explains that schools cannot see a score you do not send, so the current process does not require self-cancellation to hide it.

Your mba.com account retains the result for your use. Follow current official rules if GMAC cancels a score for another reason.

Understand score validity

Current GMAT scores are generally valid for five years. Confirm the reportable period and any programme-specific recency rule.

A valid score is not automatically competitive for a future intake.

Know the retake policy

Current rules require at least 16 days between attempts and allow up to five test-center and online attempts combined in a rolling 12-month period.

Do not create another account to bypass limits. Schedule a retake only after diagnosing and repairing a meaningful weakness.

Use official preparation first

Protect fresh official mocks for progress and readiness checks. Review every wrong, guessed, slow and changed answer.

Build a four-phase preparation plan

Use orientation, targeted learning, mixed timed sets and full official simulation. Assign each resource a purpose.

Do not replace review with repeated mocks. Improvement comes from correcting the first failed decision.

Create an error log

Record section, content, question type, time, confidence, result, first failed decision, correction and a transfer question.

Track unanswered items and Review & Edit changes because both can affect the score.

Verify ID and route rules early

GMAT ID requirements vary by location. The valid original ID must match the mba.com profile name and birth date exactly under current rules.

Also verify whether target programmes accept the selected test-center or online delivery route.

Use current official sources

Review the official GMAT structure, current exam content and official score pages.

Live GMAC and programme pages take priority over old preparation articles.

Follow a seven-step GMAT plan

Build the programme list; verify policies; learn the current exam; take an official diagnostic; repair section gaps; prove stable performance; then register and report before deadlines.

Update the plan whenever the shortlist or official policy changes.
