Run the official system check

The check evaluates webcam, microphone, operating system, browser and internet compatibility. Re-run after any hardware, network or software change.

Download or save the system-check result when the official workflow offers that option.

Check supported operating systems

At the information-check date, the live page lists Windows 10 and 11 and a defined macOS range. That range can change.

Compare the exact version number shown in system settings with the current official list.

Check processor and memory

Current guidance requires a dual-core processor or higher and at least 4 GB RAM, with 6 GB or more recommended for Windows.

Close unnecessary applications so available resources are not consumed during delivery.

Check free disk space

The current page specifies 15 GB free hard-disk space for Windows and Mac configurations.

Check display resolution

Check webcam performance

Check microphone and speakers

Working microphone and speakers are required and must not be muted. Bluetooth microphones and speakers are prohibited.

Grant permissions in the operating system and browser before the appointment.

Avoid unsupported audio equipment

Do not use earbuds, headphones or Bluetooth audio devices. Use the permitted built-in or external speaker and microphone configuration.

Remove prohibited equipment from the testing area before check-in.

Use a stable connection

Current official guidance identifies a reliable 2 Mbps download and upload connection for optimal performance.

Test stability over time, not only one high-speed result.

Prefer wired internet

The official page recommends a wired network instead of Wi-Fi where possible. Use an Ethernet setup tested with the same computer.

Ask other household users to minimise network load during the session.

Do not use a mobile hotspot

Tethering to a mobile hotspot is prohibited. Do not plan it as an emergency fallback.

Resolve unreliable fixed internet before booking or consider the test-centre delivery option.

Remove VPN and corporate firewall

The secure browser cannot run through a corporate firewall, including a VPN. Work and school computers frequently carry these controls.

Use a compliant personal computer and network, then re-run the system check.

Review antivirus scheduling

Antivirus software may remain, but official guidance says to avoid a planned scan during the appointment.

Do not disable security recklessly; configure scheduling and confirm compatibility through the official check.

Connect to a power source

Plug the computer in before the session so battery drain cannot interrupt testing. Keep the approved power route inside the testing area.

Do not plan to move the workstation or reach out of frame for power mid-exam.

Prepare the physical room

Clear the desk and all areas within arm’s reach. Cover glass walls, glass doors and windows as required.

Remove prohibited writing, electronics, personal items and extra devices before the room scan.

Protect uninterrupted access

No one may enter or pass through the online testing area during the session. Coordinate the room and household schedule.

The area remains subject to proctor inspection throughout the exam.

Prepare the whiteboard setup

Use the digital whiteboard, one approved physical whiteboard or both. A physical board must meet the current 12×20 inch maximum and erasure rules.

Ordinary paper, notebooks and writing pads are prohibited.

Complete a final recheck

Several days before the appointment, update nothing unnecessary, install the current secure browser, run the system check and verify power, internet, camera and audio.

Repeat a short check after any operating-system, browser or network change.

Keep official support details

Use the support contact shown on the current secure-browser page if installation or launch problems occur.

Do not depend on general computer advice when the delivery platform reports a specific failure.

Recognise common system failures

Common failures include managed work computers, VPN, blocked pop-ups, extra monitors, touchscreen setup, weak Wi-Fi, muted microphone and insufficient permissions.
