GRE Test Centre Rules for Nepali Students

GRE Test Centre Rules for Nepali Students explains arrival, acceptable ID, personal-item storage, security inspection, confidentiality, no-break timing, technical issues, score choices and canceled-session procedures. This guide uses the current ETS rules and avoids assuming that one document or procedure works for every citizenship and testing location.

Information checked on 25 July 2026 against current ETS GRE ID requirements, test-center rules, test-day pages and Information Bulletin references. Recheck the live ETS country/location instructions before your appointment.

Read the current center rules first

Review the route-specific ETS test-center page and current Information Bulletin before the appointment. Center staff must apply security and administration procedures consistently.

An old forum post or previous candidate’s experience cannot authorise an item or action that current rules prohibit.

Confirm the appointment

Check date, local time, center name, address and appointment number in the ETS account or confirmation. Plan the building entrance and transport route.

If details conflict, contact GRE Services or the official support channel before travelling.

Arrive at least 30 minutes early

ETS instructs test-center candidates to arrive at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time to allow check-in. Late arrival may lead to refusal and forfeiture of the fee.

Add time for traffic, parking, building security and finding the correct room. Appointment time is not arrival time.

Bring valid acceptable ID

ID requirements depend on citizenship and testing country. The first and last name must exactly match registration, excluding accents.

Use the current country/location checker and bring supplemental documentation when required or officially advised.

Limit personal items

ETS states that the only personal items normally permitted in the testing room are the ID and an optional mask. Other personal items must be stored according to staff instructions.

Do not expect access to a phone, watch, wallet, notes, bag, food or electronic device during the session.

Follow storage instructions

Center staff explain where and how to store belongings. Follow the directions before entering the testing room.

ETS and centers may limit responsibility for personal property, so leave unnecessary valuables at home.

Understand approved accommodations

Health-related equipment, beverages or snacks in the testing room require approved accommodations. Complete the accommodation process before registering as instructed.

Bring the approval information and follow staff directions. A medical need does not create an informal test-day exception.

Expect a test-day photograph

During check-in, center staff take a photograph and verify identity. The image supports secure administration and score reporting.

Follow positioning instructions and ensure the face is visible. Ask staff directly about any religious or medical consideration covered by current policy.

Expect visual inspection

ETS says candidates may be asked to empty pockets, raise trouser legs, lift sleeves, remove eyeglasses for close inspection or undergo a handheld metal-detector scan.

Additional inspections of clothing, footwear and ID may occur. These procedures are security controls, not optional preparation advice.

Prepare clothing and accessories

Choose simple comfortable clothing that can be inspected without confusion. Avoid unnecessary jewellery, bulky accessories and items you would need to remove or store.

A permitted mask can be worn under current center guidance, but staff may need to complete identity procedures. Follow local health rules and administrator instructions.

Know inspection requests

You may request an inspection by a staff member of the same gender and/or in an area sheltered from others, but ETS cannot guarantee every center has suitable staff and space.

Raise the request respectfully during check-in and follow the administrator’s available procedure.

Sign the confidentiality statement

Candidates must read and sign a statement agreeing to rules and regulations. Refusing to sign means you cannot test and the fee is not refunded.

Read it carefully. The obligation includes protecting test content and following security procedures.

Use only authorized scratch materials

The center supplies permitted scratch material. Do not bring prepared paper or notes into the room.

Return all supplied material as instructed. Test content or notes cannot be retained, copied or photographed.

Maintain workstation discipline

Remain at the assigned station, keep permitted materials in the authorised area and use only the test interface. Do not touch another workstation, cable, camera or center device without staff direction.

If input equipment behaves incorrectly, raise your hand. Repeated unauthorised troubleshooting can create a security concern and may not solve the underlying problem.

Use the on-screen calculator only

Quantitative Reasoning includes a basic on-screen calculator. Personal calculators are not permitted.

Practise with POWERPREP before test day so tool navigation does not create unnecessary delay.

Know the no-break structure

The current General Test lasts about 1 hour 58 minutes and has no scheduled break. An unscheduled break does not stop testing time.

Use the restroom before check-in and plan food and hydration. Never leave the room without administrator permission.

Follow administrator communication

If a technical, medical or procedural issue occurs, raise your hand and wait for staff. Do not leave the workstation, open other software or access stored belongings independently.

Describe the issue clearly and follow the center’s documented process.

Protect test content

Do not copy, photograph, record, reconstruct for distribution or discuss secure test questions. Notes and scratch work remain controlled materials.

Security violations can cause dismissal, score cancellation, fee forfeiture and further investigation.

Do not communicate with other test takers

During the secure session, communicate only through permitted staff channels. Do not share answers, notes, gestures or test information.

Report any accidental or suspicious situation to staff rather than trying to resolve it yourself.

Use mark and review inside a section

The GRE allows skipping, marking, returning and changing answers within the current Verbal or Quant section. Once the section ends, you cannot return.

Answer every question because wrong answers do not subtract points. Scan for blanks before using remaining time on marked items.

Handle a test-center problem

Report hardware, display, input, noise or administration problems immediately. Note details after the session if follow-up with ETS is needed.

Continuing silently through a serious issue can make later documentation harder, but staff instructions still control the live session.

Understand report versus cancel

At the end, ETS asks whether to report or cancel scores. Learn current cancellation and reinstatement policies before test day.

If you cancel, you do not first view the unofficial Verbal and Quant scores. Make the decision from policy knowledge, not surprise.

View unofficial scores when reporting

If you report, unofficial Verbal and Quant scores appear. Analytical Writing is not available immediately because it requires scoring.

Official scores are normally available in the ETS account 8–10 days after the test under current guidance.

Choose score recipients

When reporting at the center, the test fee includes designation of up to four recipients. ETS asks you to use the current ScoreSelect option for Most Recent or All scores.

Prepare institution names or codes and your policy decision before test day. Ordering reports later can involve a fee.

Handle a center cancellation or delay

When circumstances outside the administrator’s or ETS’s control require rescheduling, ETS describes a free replacement appointment or full refund of the original test fee.

Current guidance also describes a process for documented reasonable travel expenses requested within 30 days. Follow the live instructions and retain receipts. Ask staff how the disruption will be recorded, note the official contact route and keep transport or accommodation evidence without including secure test content. Submit any follow-up within the stated deadline and preserve the case number for future reference.

Report suspicious behavior

ETS asks test takers to report suspected impersonation, copying, unauthorised aids or prior access to questions. Use the official Office of Testing Integrity channel.

Do not confront another candidate. Provide factual observations and let ETS investigate.

Follow departure instructions

Return scratch materials, complete the score decision and wait for staff directions before leaving or retrieving property.

Do not discuss test content in the center lobby or online afterward.

Create a post-test administrative record

After leaving the secure area, record the test date, center, appointment number, report-or-cancel choice, selected recipients and any non-content administrative issue. Do not record secure questions.

Keep receipts and factual notes if the session was delayed, canceled or materially disrupted. This supports a timely official inquiry without violating test security.

Use the official center page

Review the current ETS test-center rules and applicable Bulletin shortly before the appointment.

Route-specific live guidance takes priority over this summary if a procedure changes.

Connect testing with applications

For programme research, documents and overseas-study planning, visit MKS Education. For structured GRE preparation, explore MKS Prep. Verify university policies directly.

Prepare recipient choices alongside the test plan so the end-of-test screen is not the first time you consider them.
