GRE Test Day Checklist for Nepali Students covers ID matching, test-center arrival, at-home equipment and identity checks, permitted materials, security rules, the no-break format and score-report decisions. Use the workflow below to turn the official resource or procedure into a repeatable, evidence-based plan.
Information checked on 25 July 2026 against current ETS GRE POWERPREP, test structure, ID, test-center and at-home test-day resources. Recheck ETS before acting because products and procedures can change.

Choose the correct testing route
GRE General Test appointments may be at an authorised test center or at home when available and eligible. Each route has different equipment, room and check-in procedures.
Read the confirmation email, current ETS test-day pages and applicable Information Bulletin. Do not combine rules from the two routes.
Check your registered name
Your first and last name on the ID must exactly match the registration name, excluding accents under ETS rules. Do not register with a nickname or incomplete first or last name.
If a discrepancy exists, contact GRE Services before test day. Arriving with a mismatch can prevent testing and forfeit the fee.
Confirm country-specific ID rules
Acceptable ID depends on citizenship and where you test. Review the current ETS country/location requirements rather than assuming one document is universally accepted.
General rules normally require an original, physical, government-issued, valid ID with matching first and last name, a recent recognisable photograph and signature. Check exceptions directly.
Reject unacceptable ID assumptions
Photocopies, expired or damaged documents and IDs displayed on a phone are generally unacceptable. International student IDs, credit cards and birth certificates are also listed as unacceptable primary or supplemental IDs.
The specific current ETS page is authoritative. Bring supplemental ID when the applicable rules or prior ETS guidance require it.
Prepare the night before
Place the correct physical ID and confirmation details where they cannot be forgotten. Recheck appointment time, route, address or at-home link and time zone.
Choose comfortable compliant clothing, plan sleep and food and avoid a last-minute full practice test.
Use a test-center countdown
Several days before, verify ID and route. The day before, confirm transport, appointment details and permitted items. On test morning, eat a familiar meal, leave with a generous delay allowance and target arrival at least 30 minutes early.
At the building, keep the ID accessible and follow staff directions from the first contact. Do not begin using stored notes or a phone after check-in instructions start.
Plan test-center travel
ETS instructs test-center candidates to arrive at least 30 minutes before the appointment for check-in. Late arrival may lead to refusal and forfeiture of the test fee.
Plan the route, transport, traffic allowance and building entry. Arriving exactly at the appointment time is not an adequate plan.
Bring only permitted center items
At the test center, the only personal items permitted in the testing room are normally your ID and an optional mask. Staff provide storage instructions for other items.
Follow staff directions. Do not attempt to access a phone, notes, watch, food or other stored personal item during the session.
Expect center security checks
During check-in, staff verify ID and take a photo. Procedures may include pocket, clothing, eyewear, voice-sample or metal-detector checks.
Read and sign the confidentiality statement and follow administrator instructions. Security-rule violations can lead to dismissal or score cancellation.
Review accommodation approval
Equipment, beverages or snacks needed for health-related reasons require approved accommodations before testing. Carry the relevant confirmation and follow ETS instructions.
Do not assume a medical item is automatically permitted in the testing room without the approval process.
Install the at-home secure browser
For at-home testing, download the current ETS Secure Browser and run the Equipment Check before test day. Test at the same time of day when practical to expose bandwidth problems.
Resolve every failed component before the appointment. A normal browser does not replace the required secure environment.
Use an at-home countdown
Several days before, complete identity verification, secure-browser installation, equipment checks and room planning. The day before, repeat the check, charge the permitted secondary device and confirm the check-in link.
Before the appointment, clear the room and desk, stop network-heavy devices, close prohibited software and position equipment exactly as current instructions require. Leave time to solve a failed check without rushing.
Complete at-home identity verification
Current ETS instructions require identity verification through the designated IDVaaS process at least 72 hours before the appointment; candidates registering later should complete it immediately.
Follow the live instructions because identity technology and deadlines can change. Late verification may delay check-in.
Prepare the at-home computer
Close unrelated browsers and applications, stop streaming on other devices and disable screen-sharing or remote-access software so it cannot reopen automatically.
Confirm the network permits the required monitoring. Work, public or university networks can block functions needed by the proctor.
Prepare the at-home room
Use a quiet, well-lit private room. Clear the table and surrounding area, position the door in the proctor’s view and ensure no other person is present or can see the session.
Keep ears and face visible and follow current clothing, headwear and accessory rules. At-home face masks are not allowed during check-in or testing under current instructions.
Gather at-home permitted materials
Current instructions list acceptable ID, approved erasable note-taking material such as a whiteboard or plastic transparency and a phone or handheld mirror for check-in.
The phone is a controlled check-in tool and may also be used as instructed for the second-camera setup. Follow the proctor and current ETS directions exactly.
Use the correct at-home check-in link
Begin from the At Home Check-In link in the ETS account or confirmation email at the stated time. The Secure Browser alone does not connect you to a proctor.
Keep the link and account access ready. Follow authentication, ID display, room scan, screen access and second-camera prompts.
Know the current test sequence
The current standard GRE has five sections and lasts about 1 hour 58 minutes. Analytical Writing is always first; Verbal and Quant sections can follow in either order.
At each section start, confirm the measure, time and response formats. Release the previous section because you cannot return after it ends.
Plan for no scheduled break
The current General Test has no scheduled break. If you take an unscheduled break, the section clock does not stop.
Use the restroom before check-in and plan food and hydration appropriately. Never leave or access materials without administrator or proctor permission.
Use scratch materials correctly
At test centers, use only materials provided and follow return procedures. At home, use only the approved erasable materials and erase them in view of the proctor when instructed.
Do not bring prepared notes. Treat scratch work as temporary test material subject to security rules.
Follow communication instructions
At a center, raise your hand and wait for staff if a technical or procedural issue occurs. At home, communicate through the proctor channel and follow instructions.
Do not troubleshoot by opening unauthorised software, using a phone independently or leaving the room.
Use mark and review inside sections
Within Verbal and Quant sections, you can skip, mark, revisit and change answers while time remains. Answer every question because wrong answers do not subtract points.
Before a section ends, scan for unanswered items, then review marked questions with specific correction potential.
Handle technical issues promptly
Report screen, input, audio, calculator or connection problems immediately through the approved channel. Record relevant details after the session if ETS follow-up is needed.
Do not continue silently through a serious issue and assume it can be reconstructed later.
Understand end-of-test score choices
At the end, you choose whether to report or cancel scores. If you report, unofficial Verbal and Quant scores are shown; Analytical Writing is unavailable immediately because it requires scoring.
Review current ScoreSelect and cancellation policies before test day so the decision is not made from surprise or fatigue.
Use a final departure check
At a center, follow staff instructions, return supplied materials and retrieve stored belongings only when authorised. At home, erase note surfaces and complete the proctor’s closing steps.
Do not photograph, copy, discuss or retain test content. Security obligations continue after the session.
Use current official resources
Check the ETS GRE test-day page, applicable ID page, confirmation email and current Bulletin immediately before the appointment.
Use current route-specific instructions rather than an old blog or screenshot because security procedures can change.
Connect test day with applications
For programme research, documents and overseas-study planning, visit MKS Education. For structured GRE preparation, explore MKS Prep. Verify university policies directly.
Keep score reporting and application deadlines visible, but focus on following test-day instructions accurately.
